Work Experience

  • Copy editing intern, The Baltimore Sun; edited feature articles for a 500,000-circulation daily newspaper based in Baltimore, also wrote headlines and captions for the "Today" and “Live!” sections of the newspaper (Fall 2004).
  • Editorial intern, The Chronicle of Higher Education; wrote a variety of articles on issues in higher education for a 100,000-circulation national weekly newspaper based in Washington, D.C., including several daily articles for the newspaper’s Web site (Summer 2004).
  • Copy editor, The Diamondback; edited copy for an 18,000-circulation five-day-a-week newspaper at the University of Maryland (Spring 2004).
  • Freelancer, Prince George’s Post; wrote an article on the opening of a home loan center and a “neighbor of the week” story for a 14,000-circulation weekly paper in Prince George’s County, Md. (Fall 2003, Spring 2004).
  • Travel editor and staff writer, Unwind! Magazine; managed a staff of five to eight writers, had editing and layout responsibilities, wrote stories on arts, travel, sports, music and shopping for a 5,000- to 10,000-circulation campus entertainment magazine at the University of Maryland (Fall 2003, Spring 2004).
  • Copy editing intern, HintonHill Enterprises and its sister company New Designs; edited copy for a direct marketing firm in Frederick, Md., and edited and wrote copy for its ad agency (Summer 2003).
  • Editorial intern, VIBE Magazine; wrote an article on Leigh Blake, a music producer and AIDS activist, conducted phone interviews, had general office duties, answered phones, conducted research and opened reader mail for an 800,000-circulation urban music and culture magazine based in New York City (Summer 2002).
  • Guest writer, The Diamondback; covered a national peace protest in Washington, D.C. (Fall 2001).
  • Stringer, The Middletown Valley Citizen; covered the happenings of the local high school for a 1,500-circulation weekly newspaper in Frederick County, Md. (Spring 2001).
